In need of some decent GRUB.

Hello friends! Popping in with a quick post since I’ve been MIA for awhile.

Some of you may have heard of GRUB, which is a stand alone eatery located in Bishan Park. It’s a nice place to go if you want to escape from the crowds and fast-paced city life. Be prepared to walk a little though, as it’s not very near the car park.

We were in the mood for some burgers that day, and since GRUB is known for their burgers, we thought we would give it a try.

Cheeseburger

My friend had the cheeseburger with fries which tastes a lot better than it sounds. The burger bun was fluffy and buttery, and the beef patty wasn’t dry. I don’t really like beef, but this was pretty good to me! The Monterey Jack Cheese was a good addition though.

Portobello Mushroom Burger

I had the portobello mushroom burger, which was rather underwhelming. The mushrooms were quite small, probably why they had to use two to make up for the lack of size. The mushrooms were not very juicy either. It would have been better to use the giant portobello mushroom caps that are thicker and juicier to replicate a patty. The amount of feta used was measly too. In fact, it was pretty much non-existent, which is a shame, as it would have added another dimension to the otherwise boring dish.

The side salad that came along with it was not spectacular either. It was literally just vegetables drenched in oil.

I think I could have drank the remnants of the oil. Haha. They should have added more balsamic vinegar. I think the chances of my arteries getting clogged was higher from eating the salad, as compared to the burgers.

Despite hits and misses with the burgers, the service here is commendable and the staff are eager to help. The ambience is nice, possibly because it wasn’t crowded when I went there on a weekday afternoon. The view is lovely too! Prices are affordable, between $10-20 with most of the dishes in the low to mid range. They have some interesting burgers too, like the Har Cheong Kai burger!

Would I be back? It’s not an enthusiastic yes, since the food wasn’t exactly impressionable. But I would return if I was in the area and needed to get some decent grub, the emphasis being on decent here.

Author’s note: I sound so unenthusiastic in this post. Haha. University must be draining the life out of me.
